Many of you have asked me about some computer issues.  I have tried many programs over the years and downloaded many.  I thought adding some information might be useful to you.

Many times my computer has become slow or I receive errors that I don't know what to do with.  Today we have spam, adware, viruses, etc.  Sometimes they make for a hectic day.  Most of the time when problems arise much time is spent trying to fix the problem or calling a professional.  Although I am not a professional, I would like to offer you an ounce of prevention.

There are certain programs that I use almost daily.  You may not need run them as often.  I probably abuse my computer, sometimes just to see if I am able to fix it.

The programs I will recommend, I have used and they are free, no cost to you and usually no sign up is needed.  It would be nice if one program could be used to solve all of the problems, but I haven't found that to be the case.  Remember, I use these programs, I do not get paid for anything I am telling you or for programs I recommend.  Sometimes I run one cleaner after the other one finishes.  You may have to manually keep them updated, since they are free.  I will start with the programs that I have found easiest to use.  Please follow the download and install instructions and they should be easy to use and operate.  Click on the links to go directly to the site.

First, I like internet explorer but it crashes a lot on my computer or I simply just have trouble with it, frequently.  As a solution I use Firefox.  This has saved me great agony in times past.  You may or may not want to try it.

Advanced WindowsCare Personal edition -- I use this very often. IT cleans and has solved several of my problems before going any further.
Spywareblaster --
Ad-Aware SE --
Be sure to download the free edition!
Sybot Search & Destroy --You will see the download at the top right of the page.

If any of you have pictures that you want to share with your friends and family, there is a great program that lets you put them on the internet. You can determine who can view them and who can't.  The great part is, it's FREE!.  It's called IGOOGLE.  Be careful! Travel at your own risk!  I believe you will become attached to this one.

Have you ever had a problem defragmenting your hard drive?  I have.  I have found a shortcut.
Follow these steps:
Go to START>
Run> Type in> cmd
When the black box appears, type> defrag c: -b
You should now see an underline flashing.
When it is finished it, will return the original line that you began with.

If you have any tips that would be useful to a novice like me, please email them to: webmaster@martinchurchofchrist.org
