OUR SICK:
- Otha Britton had surgery late yesterday in Jackson. The surgery went well and the polyp they removed was not cancerous.
- Makenna Greer will have surgery on Monday the 25th.
- Reed Exum is now at home and surgery will not be needed.
- Lindell Doty is now at home following surgery.
- Janice Capps had rotator cuff surgery on Tuesday in Nashville. She is at home and is in a lot of pain.
- Joseph Peabody, a little boy related to Pat White and Marie Neilsen has been sent home from the hospital and hospice has been called in. (Yesterday was his fourth birthday).
- Jackie Moore got a good report from her heart specialist.
- John Beddingfield, brother of Gloria Monroe, is taking radiation treatments.
- Elaine Riggins, sister of Vicki Exum, is at Vicki's house recovering from surgery.
- Mildred Maddox, mother of Wanda Hayes, has to take Vitamin B-12 shots each week..
- Normandy Stinnett had brain surgery in Raleigh, NC.
- Abby Glover will have an MRI to examine a spot on her lung.
- Marjorie Gill is undergoing radiation and is having breathing problems.
- Leonard Mathes, brother-in-law of Mary Glasgow, is in St. Thomas Hospital.
- Arlette Childress is at Martin Health Care, Room 407 B.
- Charlie Rowlett is doing well following his treatments.
- Hayley Holmes, the 13 yr. old niece of Keith Carver is improving and might not need further surgery.
- David Whitfield is at Martin Health Care.
- Eula Mae McCarley, grandmother of Nancy McCauley, is doing better and is now in a nursing home for rehab.
- Kim Brook is still at home.
- Bob Laws is at home and doing better.
- Creed Melton has LCH Disease and will be undergoing chemotherapy. See the flyer on the bulletin board for information about a benefit for him.
- Caleb McClarin is the 27 month old cousin of Shelia Cash. He has a rare blood disease and will be treated with chemotherapy.
- Mary Lynn Benson is in Weakley County Nursing Home, Room 2.
- Louise Tucker is in Bethany Health Care Center in Nashville.
- JoAnne Fuqua is in Van Ayer Room 412-A.
- Georgette Smith is at home.

- There will be a meeting of those interested in going to Costa Rica in January, 2009, on Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the Martin Church building. If you are interested in going or have not yet decided about your interest level, please attend this meeting.
- There will be a bridal shower for Stephanie Roberts, bride elect of James Henry III on Sunday, August 24 from 4:00-5:30 pm in the fellowship hall.
- The Annual Golf Outing will be Saturday, October 18 at Persimmon Hills Golf Course. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer.

AN EXTRA FUNNY: The irate customer, calling the newspaper offices, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.
"Ma'am," said the employee, "Today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until Sunday."
There was quite a pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition.
"So that's why no one was in church today."
